What happens when you combine Britain’s two greatest loves — pups and pubs? You get The Great British Pup Crawl.

Rover.com, the world’s largest online marketplace for pet care, has opened app-paw-lications for one lucky dog owner and their four-legged friend to land the best job of the summer. The chosen Public House Officer will receive £6,000 (plus expenses) to travel the UK this July, visiting up to 110 pubs to sniff out and rate the country’s most dog-friendly establishments.

Successful candidates will need a sociable and well-behaved pooch, a love of pub culture, a willingness to travel, and an active presence on social media to document the journey.

The position taps into a rising national dream. According to Rover’s latest research:

  • 90% of British dog owners say their pooch is their dream colleague — ranking them higher than siblings (66%), partners (53%), and even best friends (45%).
  • 81% say their dog lifts their mood better than any human co-worker.
  • 82% of Brits claim their dream job would involve working with animals.
  • 66% would trade their current job in a heartbeat to spend their days with dogs.

When asked about their ultimate dream jobs, here’s how Brits ranked their top choices:

  1. Dog walker/sitter (30%)
  2. Pub tester (22%)
  3. Vet (20%)
  4. Photographer (15%)
  5. Entrepreneur (13%)
  6. Food critic (13%)
  7. Pet trainer (13%)
  8. Influencer (12%)
  9. Actor (9%)
  10. Sportsperson (8%)
  11. Pub or café owner (8%)

Adem Fehmi, Canine Behaviourist at Rover, adds:

“Taking your pooch to the pub can be a fantastic way to bond, socialise, and keep them mentally stimulated — so long as the environment suits their needs and temperament. Look for pubs with a calm, quiet atmosphere and both indoor and outdoor dog-friendly spaces, ideally away from busy entrances or walkways. The best spots will go the extra mile: think water bowls, poo bags, dog beds, even treats or a specially curated pup menu. Friendly, dog-aware staff make all the difference too. And remember — while it’s great when venues provide extras, you know your dog best, so always come prepared and choose locations where your pup will feel comfortable and welcome.”

For those who dream of swapping their desk job for days filled with dogs and discovery, this is the paw-fect opportunity.
