From Tesco to Tail-Wagging Wellness: Why One Man Swapped Retail for Real-Life Coaching and Canine Care

After 25+ years at Tesco, this new business owner is on a mission to help people and pets live healthier, happier lives.

For over two decades, Graham worked in one of the UK’s biggest supermarket chains, climbing the ladder and eventually managing a large-format store. But after years of Christmas shifts, tough consultations, and personal reflection – including the loss of his dad and a relationship breakdown – he decided it was time for change.

“I realised I’d been working weekends and missing out on life. It hit me that if I didn’t make a move now, I probably never would,” he says.

So, in 2024, he left his senior retail role to launch a passion-led business: My Pack Nutrition — a unique blend of nutrition coaching and trusted dog care.

A Mission Rooted in Real Life

My Pack Nutrition is about two things:

  1. Helping people understand what their bodies actually need — without the fads, pills, or guilt.
  2. Giving dogs the care, trust, and routine they deserve.

“I’ve trained in gyms all my life and ran the London Marathon back in ’99. I’ve done the Great North Run twice too. But I’ve always struggled with weight – like most people. Especially in your 40s, nutrition becomes critical. You see so many people on statins or using injections to lose weight, but a lot of that can be prevented with the right food and movement.”

The business isn’t about turning clients into bodybuilders — it’s about helping real people with real lives feel better and more energised, using honest coaching and customised meal planning.

“I’m not a sports model. I’m just someone who knows what it’s like to juggle life, work, and family – and still want to feel good in your own skin.”

Busting Myths & Changing Habits

From calorie confusion to misunderstood buzzwords like “BMI”, Graham is determined to empower clients through education. He uses industry software to calculate BMR and TDEE — giving people a realistic daily energy target and building meal plans that actually work.

“You don’t need to cut carbs or live off shakes. And you certainly don’t need to be hungry. It’s about eating well and enjoying it — in moderation.”

He’ll be sharing myth-busting content over the coming months via Facebook (@MyPackNutrition), aiming to challenge diet culture with fact-based advice and practical tips.

Because Dogs Deserve It Too

The “pack” in My Pack Nutrition also includes your four-legged friends. Growing up surrounded by dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs and cats, Graham has always felt a deep connection to animals.

“I’ve always had dogs in my life. My kids have too. They’re part of the family — and I know how hard it is to find someone you really trust with them.”

As part of his services, he offers dog walking and pet care that’s fully insured, DBS checked, and based on building trust — with both the dog and the owner.

“I always do a pre-visit to meet the dog, understand their routine, and make sure I fit in with their energy. It’s about becoming part of the pack.”

Changing His Own Life – and Others’

Leaving a well-paid, secure job was a big decision — but one that’s already bringing purpose.

“This is the first time since I was 16 that I haven’t had a boss. It’s daunting. But as a great man once said… He who dares, Rodders!

With plans to grow his client base locally and eventually build a website, he’s taking each step with confidence — and a bit of humour.

“If I can make this into a full-time career doing what I love — helping people and caring for dogs — that’ll be a win. I just want to be a trusted name in the community.”
