1. You’ve protected some of the world’s biggest names, including Michael Jackson, Kendall Jenner, and Bella Hadid. What was it really like working with someone as iconic as Michael Jackson?

It was back in 2006, so a long time ago now. It was a busy job, but just another day’s work for me at the time. I didn’t think too much of it. Since he passed away, I’ve realised it was probably a bigger deal than I thought when I was actually working on the job.

2. The world of celebrity security is fascinating. What would people be most surprised to learn about being a bodyguard at that level?

Probably the amount of hours you work and how unglamorous it really is. You wake up before them and go to bed after them. That can often mean a 14 to 16-hour shift.

3. Looking back, is there a particular moment or client that stands out as the most memorable or challenging?

Michael Jackson would have been the most challenging due to his very large and passionate fan base.

4. Was there ever a moment when you felt genuinely under threat or had to act quickly to protect someone?

I spent many years working in the Middle East as a bodyguard, where the threat level was much higher. Looking after celebrities came a bit later and, in comparison, it was pretty relaxed. I never felt under threat in the UK or Europe.

5. Physical fitness and awareness must be essential in your line of work. Did your background involve martial arts or any specific training, and how much does that still shape your life today?

I don’t have any experience with martial arts or combat techniques. The key to professional bodyguarding is preventing physical confrontation from happening in the first place. Of course, if something does happen, you need to be able to look after yourself and others, but you’re very limited in what you can do, especially in the UK. While martial arts can help, they’re not at the top of the list when it comes to useful attributes in this job.

6. You’re starring in Rise of the Foot Soldier: Retribution and have more films on the way. Can you tell us about your role and what audiences can expect?

Rise of the Foot Soldier: Retribution is due to hit cinemas around November this year. I play a defective Bosnian soldier turned mercenary involved in arms dealing. It’s the seventh in the franchise and will be the biggest one yet.

7. You’ve worked on major sets like Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows and Final Score. What’s been your biggest pinch-me moment so far?

Doubling for Dave Bautista in Final Score was a great job for me. He’s a fantastic actor with a huge Marvel profile. That experience actually led me to acting school a few years later and helped me pursue acting more seriously.

8. You were named the ‘Real Style Star of London Fashion Week’ by British Vogue. How did your personal style evolve into launching SNL London?

I used to wear a bomber jacket for another company, and magazines like Vogue would run features on me, often commenting on my outfits. One day, I decided I’d make my own. Simon Newton London’s first piece was a bomber jacket. Since our 2024 launch, we’ve expanded into T-shirts and tracksuits, and the brand has gone from strength to strength. We’re now about to launch a new range of retro T-shirts for men and women.

9. What’s the mission behind Simon Newton London, and who do you see wearing your pieces?

We aim to create a middle-market brand that feels like a luxury brand, not just in quality but also in the experience. While some luxury bomber jackets retail for £2,500, we offer similar quality at a much more accessible price.

10. From celebrity bodyguard to actor, entrepreneur, and business owner. What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned along the way?

Only do what’s hard. You don’t get rewarded for doing what’s easy. If you want to grow in life, choose the hard path, put the work in, and you’ll achieve great things.
