Social media has become packed with quick entertainment, but few creators tap into shared memories quite like Marcus Tisson. Through sketches inspired by growing up in the 90s, school life, old TV shows, Argos catalogues and everyday childhood moments, Marcus has built a loyal audience who see their own experiences reflected in his comedy.

Now preparing for more live shows and a new collaboration with ManCave Mania, Marcus says nostalgia is far more powerful than simply reminding people of the past.

“People genuinely relate to it”

Marcus explains that the nostalgia-driven direction of his content came naturally.

“I wanted to create something people around my age could relate to because there aren’t many people doing what I do in the way I do it.”

That relatable approach has become the foundation of his growing online success. Rather than chasing trends, his sketches are often based on his own memories and experiences growing up.

“All the videos are based on my life and the things I experienced growing up.”

For many viewers, the appeal comes from instantly recognising moments from their own childhood. Whether it is references to classic snacks, retro gaming or family routines, the content creates a shared connection that cuts across generations.

Comedy during difficult times

Marcus also spoke openly about how comedy became more important in his own life following personal loss.

He says he realised he wanted to become a comedian around 2017 after losing both of his parents.

That personal journey has shaped the way he views comedy today, especially the emotional impact nostalgic content can have on audiences.

“Yes, 1000%,” he says when asked whether nostalgia and comedy can genuinely help people mentally.

“I’ve had so many messages from people saying they were in a dark place and my content helped them.”

At a time when many people feel overwhelmed by constant negative news and online pressure, nostalgia content has become increasingly popular online because it offers something comforting and familiar. Marcus believes that reconnecting people with happier memories can make a real difference.

Bringing 90s gaming nostalgia back

Marcus has also recently teamed up with ManCave Mania, the growing UK nostalgia platform focused on retro gaming, classic toys, VHS culture and collectables.

The collaboration will feature nostalgic gaming-themed content inspired by growing up with consoles during the 90s.

“Fun content about playing consoles in the 90s that people can really relate to.”

The partnership fits naturally with Marcus’ audience, many of whom grew up during the golden era of retro gaming and pop culture.

Live shows and future ambitions

Away from social media, Marcus continues to expand his live comedy career, with upcoming sold-out shows at London’s iconic Secret Comedy Club and performances in Birmingham.

When asked about his long-term goals, Marcus says he has big ambitions for the future.

“To go on a worldwide tour and have my own TV show.”

For aspiring comedians looking to follow a similar path, his advice is simple.

“Be yourself, start with open mic nights, and don’t do it to get famous or rich because that probably won’t happen. Do it because you genuinely love performing.”
